Job Summary
The primary function of this position is to gain the knowledge necessary to exercise the independent judgment needed to write profitable business. The person in the role is responsible for timely analysis and evaluation of new and renewal business and will be able to efficiently ensure adequate pricing on individual risks in accordance with company underwriting guidelines and philosophy. In addition to possessing underwriting knowledge, a Small Business Underwriter will often interact with agents to successfully address all account specific questions and concerns.
The person chosen in this role will work under the supervision of the Small Business Unit Manager.
Qualifications
~ Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred and minimum of 3 years’ experience in the insurance industry.
~ Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the insurance industry.
~ Ability to build strong working relationships with agents and internal departments.
~ Proficient in PC skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
~ Must have strong time-management skills.
Job Responsibilities
~ Responsible for creating and maintaining electronic policy underwriting files.
~ Analyze profitability reports on a monthly basis.
~ Occasional travel within the state of Pennsylvania is required.
~ Must begin actively pursuing AU or CPCU designation after one year of employment.
~ Maintain awareness of Pennsylvania Workers Compensation Bureau (PCRB) underwriting rules and updates.
~ Other duties as assigned.
